Project Settings Guide

This guide shows project administrators how to override the global linked-issue defaults for one project without changing the rest of the installation.

Why Project Overrides Exist

Global defaults are useful when you want one standard linked-issue workspace across YouTrack. Project overrides are useful when a specific team needs:

  • a different set of visible columns
  • different visible link types
  • nested linked issues enabled only in selected projects
  • a different aggregate default

Open Project Settings

  1. Open the target project in YouTrack.
  2. Go to Project Settings.
  3. Open Advanced Linked Issues & Traceability.

The project settings page loads the current global defaults and lets you decide whether this project should inherit them or override them.

Inherit Global Defaults

When Override global defaults for this project is turned off:

  • the project uses the installation-wide configuration exactly as defined in the admin page
  • the form is visible for reference but inactive
  • changes must be made in the global administration view

Enable Project Overrides

When you enable Override global defaults for this project:

  • the form is prefilled with the current global defaults
  • you can adjust only this project
  • saving does not change any other project

This is the recommended approach when you need a local variant without losing consistency across the rest of the instance.

Settings You Can Override

Project settings support the same linked-issue controls as the global configuration:

  • Group rows by link type
  • Show completion progress bar
  • Enable nested linked issues
  • Visible link types
  • Columns
  • Default aggregate function

Typical Override Patterns

Simplify a Helpdesk Project

Use fewer columns and limit visible link types so agents only see the relationships that matter in day-to-day support work.

Enable Nested Linked Issues for Delivery Projects

Some teams need to inspect second-level dependencies frequently. Enable nested linked issues only there.

Turn on Aggregates for Planning Fields

If a project uses numeric or period fields heavily, enable aggregation for those fields and define the preferred default function.

Save Project Settings

After you make changes:

  1. Review the current configuration.
  2. Click Save project settings.
  3. Refresh the issue page if you want to confirm the result in the issue panel immediately.

More Options Menu

The project settings page includes the same More options menu pattern as the other app views. From there, you can open:

  • What's new
  • Configuration
  • Documentation
  • Contact us
  • Discover Appfero apps

Troubleshooting

The form shows global values again after I disabled overrides

That is expected. Disabling overrides returns the project to the global configuration.

I enabled overrides but the issue panel still looks unchanged

  • Make sure you saved the project settings
  • Refresh the issue page
  • Confirm that the issue belongs to the same project you configured

The toggle was enabled but the fields were already filled in

That is also expected. The override form starts from the current global values so that you can refine them instead of rebuilding the setup from scratch.

Next step: Use the Issue Panel Guide to verify how the project configuration looks in real issues.
