Time in Status

Welcome to the Time in Status documentation. This application helps YouTrack teams understand how long issues stay in each workflow status, so they can spot waiting time, handoff delays, and flow bottlenecks without leaving YouTrack.

Key Features

  • Flexible reporting scopes: Build reports by project, query, saved query, assignee, reporter, agile board and sprint, or tag
  • Two reporting views: Switch between a detailed table view and a visual chart view
  • Configurable table output: Choose issue fields, reorder columns, sort supported columns, and adjust pagination
  • Chart export and table export: Export chart views to SVG and table results to CSV
  • Saved reports: Store private reports for yourself or shared reports for your team
  • Issue-level analysis: Review status history for a single issue directly in the issue panel
  • Global defaults: Administrators can define the default state field and default time format for the whole installation
  • Built-in lifecycle flow: Start a 14-day trial, manage subscription status, and access release announcements from inside YouTrack

Why Teams Use Time in Status

  • Find workflow bottlenecks: See where work spends the most time before delivery slows down further
  • Support retrospectives with evidence: Bring concrete duration data into sprint reviews and operational discussions
  • Reduce context switching: Run flow analysis directly inside YouTrack instead of exporting raw history to external tools first
  • Reuse repeatable analysis: Save reporting setups for weekly reviews, delivery meetings, or stakeholder updates
  • Inspect individual issues faster: Use the issue panel to understand a single ticket's status journey without leaving the issue page

Quick Start

  1. Administrators: Open the Admin Guide to start the trial, review subscription status, and configure defaults.
  2. Report users: Follow the Reporting Guide to build reports, switch between table and chart views, and save report setups.
  3. Issue investigators: Use the Issue Panel Guide to inspect a single issue's status flow.
  4. Buyers and admins: Review Subscription for pricing, trial, and billing details.

How It Works

Time in Status follows a simple three-step flow:

  1. Choose what to track: Select the workflow state field that should be treated as the tracked status field.
  2. Choose the report scope: Decide whether you want to analyze a project, query, saved query, assignee, reporter, agile sprint, or tag.
  3. Review the result: Use the table for issue-level detail, use the chart for a visual summary, and save the setup if you will need it again.

Example Use Cases

Delivery Review by Sprint

Use the agile board and sprint scope to see which statuses consumed the most time during the current sprint.

Team Lead Follow-up by Assignee

Run a report by assignee to check whether one person's work is consistently waiting in review, testing, or blocked states longer than expected.

Support Flow Analysis by Tag

Use tags to compare how long escalated or urgent tickets remain in each state compared with the rest of the queue.

Single Ticket Investigation

Open the issue panel on one issue to understand exactly when it changed status, who made the change, and how long it stayed there.
